This is the second annual ranking of outstanding female corporate leaders. This year the jury was composed of:
  • Elizabeth Barret, partner and head of dispute resolution, Slaughter and May
  • Marjorie Scardino, chief executive, Pearson (publisher of the Financial Times)
  • Vagn Soerensen, chief executive officer, Austrian Airlines
  • Laura d’Andrea Tyson, dean, London Business School
  • John Grumbar, chief executive officer, Egon Zehnder International
The selection criteria were based, among other things, on the level of responsibility, the size of the company, the complexity of the business sector as well as more subjective criteria related to charisma, type of career path and role played in women’s advancement. All candidates had to be based in a European country (25 EU member countries, EU candidate countries, Russia and Switzerland), even if their field of responsibility extended well beyond Europe.

In describing the criteria that governed the choice of Christel Bories, the Financial Times noted that she successfully managed over the past two years to expand her overall sector in the food, beauty, pharmaceuticals and tobacco markets.

Alcan Packaging is a world leader in the packaging industry with sales of $6 billion and nearly 32,000 employees working at 148 operating sites spread over 30 countries and regions.
