| Ilene S. Gordon will become Senior Vice President, Alcan Inc., and President and CEO, Alcan Packaging, as of December 1, 2006. Previously she served as President, Alcan Food Packaging Americas since 2004. With sales of US$1.4 billion in 2005, Alcan Food Packaging Americas has 5,000 employees in 6 countries.
Prior to Pechiney’s integration within Alcan, Ms. Gordon was President of Pechiney Plastic Packaging, Inc., a global leader in flexible and rigid packaging, and Senior Vice President of Pechiney Group from 1999 to 2004. In this role, Ms. Gordon oversaw a global US$1.5 billion business with 14 operations in North America, 14 in Europe, and one each in Argentina, Morocco and Australasia.
Before joining Pechiney, Ms. Gordon spent 17 years in a number of executive roles at the Packaging Corporation of America, a division of Tenneco Inc. From 1997-1999, Ms. Gordon was Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Folding Carton Business. Previously, she served as Vice President, Operations, at the Tenneco corporate level from 1994-1997.
Between 1992 and 1994, Ms. Gordon was Vice President, Total Quality Management, which included Continuous Improvement. Before that, she served as Vice President and General Manager, Corrugated and Specialty Packaging from 1985-1992. From 1982-1985, Ms. Gordon was Vice President of Strategy.
Before joining Tenneco Inc., Ms. Gordon spent two years at Signode, a leading global packaging company specialized in materials handling, which today is a part of Illinois Tool Works. At Signode, Ms. Gordon was Director of Strategic Planning.
From 1976-1980, Ms. Gordon was a strategy consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), an international management consulting firm. At BCG, Ms. Gordon was initially based in Boston, then London for 15 months, and finally Chicago advising clients focused on consumer packaged goods, banking, and packaging.
Ms. Gordon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, Phi Betta Kappa, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a Master of Science degree in management from MIT's Sloan School of Management.
She is director and chairman of the Governance Committee for Arthur J. Gallagher & Company, and director and chairman of the Human Resources Committee for United Stationers. She has served on the Board of the North American Flexible Packaging Association for seven years, both as a Director and as its Executive Vice-Chair.
Ms. Gordon has long been an active member of the civic community. She has been a Director of the Evanston Northwestern Health Care for the past decade. She also serves on the Board of the Executive Club of Chicago. In addition to being a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Chicago Women's Network, and the Economic Club of Chicago, Ms. Gordon is a member of the Committee of 200, an international not-for-profit women’s association whose mission is to meet the needs of its membership in areas of business synergies, leadership advancement, education, mentoring, and recognition. She is also an active supporter and contributor to the United Way of Chicago.
Ms. Gordon is married, has two children and enjoys golf and travel.
