| In celebration of the "Suupaa Pop! Package Design From Japan" exhibition, Alcan Packaging Beauty, one of the exhibit sponsors, hosted a cocktail party at the AIGA National Design Center in New York City on May 17. The show, co-sponsored by Desgrippes Gobé, showcased the spirited packaging found in "suupaas," Japanese corner supermarkets. The exhibition ran the design center from April 12 to May 25.
On display was an array of products that were purchased in Tokyo six months ago. The show's objective was to share the Japanese aesthetic - which runs from cool to adorable to hilarious - with U.S. packaging experts. Organized in groups by color, the assortment of packaging was humorous, playful and colorful.
For the party, perfumer Jean-Pierre Subrenat of "Creative Concepts" developed a collection of scents to complement the food being served. The sensorial treats were prepared by chef Jean-Louis Gérin, owner of the Jean-Louis restaurant in Danbury, Connecticut.
